Why Brick Needs a Gentle Clean
Brick looks like it could handle anything, so a lot of people hit it with high pressure. The problem is the mortar. High pressure wears away at the joints, and older mortar can crumble or wash out, which is a much bigger repair than a dirty wall.
Brick is also porous. Algae, mildew and moss settle into the surface, especially low on the wall, on the shady side of the house and around steps and chimneys where water runs. Blasting only takes off the top layer, so the growth comes back fast.
A soft wash lets the cleaning solution soak into the brick and break the growth down, then rinses it away with low pressure. Your plants get soaked with a neutralizer first, so they're protected the whole time.
